Observations 2023
Walk a familiar route. Stop when you notice something you have never noticed before, and make a voice note describing where you are. Repeat as often as you like on the walk – or just do it once, that’s fine. When you are home again, play back the voice notes to yourself.

Moonwalk 2022
Set out one hour before moonset and walk in the direction of the moon. Correct your course when buildings, walls, roads, trees and natural barriers get in your way. Notice anything you feel – about the moon, your mood, the technology, your body. Walk ends when the moon sets. Let it trace a path in your memory in whatever way you want.

Crowd walk I 2019
Walk through a crowd. Try to look at the face of everyone you pass. How many faces do you remember afterwards?
Crowd walk II
Walk through a crowd. Avoid looking at faces, try to look at the feet of everyone you pass. How is it different?
Crowd walk III
Walk through a crowd. Avoid looking at people, try to keep your gaze fixed on the horizon. How is it different?

Loiter 2019
A walk to be done in places with signs that forbid loitering, or forbid something else. Walk through such a place in a loitering way. If you don’t know what loiter means, invent a meaning and do whatever that is. Decide whether this is a game or a rebellion.

Invisible walking 2015
Take a walk across a busy part of the city in the middle of a weekday. The aim of the walk is to try to be invisible. Think about who might be watching. Do you try to stay in the shadows or hide in plain sight, looking as anonymous as you can? Maybe you should mix with the crowds. Be alert for cameras. Perhaps you hide your face by looking down or wearing a hood; perhaps you try to change your appearance from street to street, by taking off your jacket or putting on a hat. How much do you need to disguise yourself before you disappear?

Escalations 2014
Get on an escalator going up, eg at a station or in a large store. Walk up it until you come to another person standing, at which point you can stand a step or two behind them. At the top, find another escalator going up and repeat, or if there isn’t one, find the down escalator and walk down applying the same rule. Keep going up and down on the escalators for as long as you can or until you get bored.
